SCRBA AND FCRBA Shows on 9-25-10

Maria decided to attend the shows yesterday alone so Doug could get in a long motorcyle ride in the mountains.  It was a long but rewarding day.  It was a triple show.  In one show Rascal won Best of Opposite Sex Variety and in another he won Best of Opposite Sex.  But he was most happy that he got to breed a beautiful Steel French Lop Doe!  Hopefully Ruffian will have some nice babies and Sarah, a talented 4-H'r, will be happy!

Phillipe, our little Solid Gold-Tipped Steal Junior, won Best of Opposite on his first day of showing in his little life!  And Miss Sassy, our Big Momma, won Best of Breed which earned her a third leg.

At home Delilah is still mothering those babies that were born last week.  Unfortunately as of last count we had lost two solids and now are down to 6.  But those look lively and chubby!

Baby Bunnies Born!

Happy to report that Delilah had four babies today and Darlin' had four yesterday.  Because Darlin's milk has not come in despite giving her a shot of Oxytocin, Delilah has been given her babies to raise.  So far Trixie shows no sign of having any babies.

Of the 8 babies, 4 are Solids and 4 are Brokens.  There appears to be some color variation in these 2 litters as well, but not sure what those colors will be exactly yet.  Hopefully they will all make it to weaning.  Delilah has raised a litter before so we have our fingers crossed.

Recent Happenings at the Rabbitry for September

Last weekend we made it up to the triple rabbit show in Cheyenne, WY and got to meet lots of nice folks from Wyoming for the first time.  We also got to watch some Flemish Giant judging.  This is a breed that we are considering adding to the rabbitry some day.  Miss Sassy won her 2nd leg at the show by winning Best of Opposite Sex!

Currently we are waiting to see what babies are born tomorrow.  Darlin', Delilah, and Trixie are all due.  Right now Delilah is out in the rabbitry making a nest like a maniac.  That is a good sign!

Colorodo State Fair

Last week we attended the Colorado State Fair and entered our French Lops in the Premium and Point Shows.  We are very happy that Grumpy, Edens' 4FW2 won Best of Breed on Saturday and his daughter Penelope, Willowbrook's GM4, won Best of Opposite Sex that day as well.

We were also able to talk to lots of people about French Lops and rabbits in general.  Folks had lots of questions about these big Buddha bunnies.  I do have to say that it was a joy to help some of the 4-H'rs rehearse for their showmanship presentations and we particularly enjoyed watching the "Dress a Bunny" Contest that the youth participated in.  As always I am so impressed at how all the kids handle themselves and their rabbits at the shows.

Here is a picture of Bristol, Willowbrook's GM11, that now lives with Tina and Richard L. as she was waiting to be judged in the Dress A Bunny Contest:

Willowbrook Rabbitry exists for two purposes.  The first is to promote the love and knowledge of keeping rabbits and the second is to develop and manage a quality herd of French Lops.  We can provide rabbit visits and programs to your group, school or organization.  We have a small variety of visiting  house rabbits that we use for educational purposes as well as our show rabbits.  We have kits (babies) on a limited basis.  We are located in southern Colorado.
