Willowbrook Rabbitry is owned and operated by Maria and Doug Cramer. Both of us had outdoor
pet rabbits as children like many people have. As adults we returned to having pet rabbits, but in the intervening 35
years the house rabbit movement emerged and the idea of keeping pet rabbits has changed considerably. Drawing on our
experience in training and showing dogs, we also began exploring rabbit behavior and training as well as showing. Maria
has a bachelors degree in Animal Bioscience and has been a life long learner when it comes to animals in general. Overall
in the rabbitry, we try to combine our knowledge of animal behavior and husbandry along with the traditional influences of
American and British rabbit keeping as well as information gleaned from the house rabbit movement. This has all coalesced
into the idea of rabbit enrichment. You may be familiar with the enrichment days they have at zoos in which they give
the zoo animals made up items to keep them curious and occupied, such as giving the polar bear an ice block filled with meat
frozen inside. Well here at the rabbitry we believe that happy bunnies make productive bunnies and we aim to have an
enriching environment for them. Please see our enrichment page to find out more.
Our two main Goals:
1) To promote the love
and understanding of keeping rabbits
We can provide information and presentations to your group or organization about rabbits and their care. This can range
from an educational presentation to just a visit in which the rabbits can be petted and enjoyed. We are located in the
Pueblo, CO, area and have experience visiting nursing homes, schools, day cares, churches and community groups. Here
are some of the kind of activities and visits we are able to do: Educational presentations on rabbit husbandry, story
time (reading with rabbits), Easter visits, petting sessions, etc. Visits and presentations are custom prepared for
the group member's needs and ages.
2) To maintain a quality herd of French Lops
Although we have other types of rabbits for presentations, visits and even showing, our main herd are French
Lops and we focus most of our showing/breeding efforts on this herd. We are lucky to have started with quality stock
from the Edens' Rabbitry in Illinois. We thank them for all of their support and encouragement and starting us off
with quality rabbits. We breed on a very limited basis compared to most rabbitries so if you are interested in purchasing
one of our babies, it is wise to contact us ahead of time.
