Our Therapy/Visiting Rabbits are all primarily pet rabbits.  They majority of them are rescued rabbits from shelters or rabbit rescues.  They have experience being handled and being in public places.  Most are spayed or neutered and litter box trained.  We have a variety of breeds that demonstrate the diversity among domestic rabbits.  Each breed and individual rabbit has their own personality.  Currently we have four bonded rabbits and two that prefers to live alone.  Please see their stories below:

Peaches

Peaches is a tri-colored Rex rabbit.  She was adopted from the Elmore Co. Humane Society in Wetumpka, Alabama.  She was brought into the shelter by some folks who found her wandering their neighborhood.  She was a lucky girl because most rabbits left to wander own their own don't survive.  She has the velvety Rex fur that is so soft to the touch.  Peaches likes to be a single gal and has resisted our attempts at bonding her with another rabbit.  She does have a weight problem like a lot of Rexes.  Seems she looks at a raisin and it goes right to her hips!

Thumps

Thumps was adopted from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society in Birmingham, Alabama.  She was surrendered by her owner who said she was just "too much to handle".  Thumps is a very athletic girl and loves to climb or jump on the highest spot in the room if at all possible.  She is a very dominant rabbit and is also an escape artist.  She is full of personality and never ceases amazing us with her antics.  We believe she is a Standard Chinchilla rabbit which is a rare breed.  She was first bonded with Leopold and is now also bonded to Henri and Collette.

Henri

Henri is a Mini Lop breed of rabbit.  He was adopted from TLC Rabbit Rescue in Tallahassee, Florida.  Henri is the sweetest one of our troop and probably the oldest.  He loves to be held which is unusual for most rabbits.  He also likes to give kisses on occasion.  Henri was taken into rescue from a shelter that had little experience with rabbits.  They were going to euthanize him when rabbit rescue stepped in at the last minute.  Good thing because he is the sweetest rabbit we have ever seen.  He was first bonded with Collette and later with Thumps and Leopold.  In 2009 we almost lost Henri and he had to have emergency surgery to remove a bladder stone that was about the size of a quarter!  He practically tapped danced out of the hospital he felt so much better.  That is one big stone for a 6 lb rabbit!

Collette

Collette is our first French Lop and she has angora wool instead of fur.  This is an undesirable genetic rarity in French Lops and many breeders cull them from their herds.  She came to us from a breeder/rescuer outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  She is the only one of our rabbits who has ever flew on a plane!  We are saving her wool which has to be sheared periodically in order to have it spun.  She is a big friendly girl at 15 lbs and when full with wool she looks like a Tribble with a head!  She was first bonded to Henri and later also with Leopold and Thumps.

Leopold

Leopold is a Flemish Giant.  He was purchased at 4 months old from a breeder in Alabama.  His nick name is Big Baby Leo because although he weighs 15 lbs he acts like a baby.  Leo likes to make appearances as the Easter Bunny.  He loves to do binkies and explore new territory.  He was first bonded to Thumps and now lives with her and Collette and Henri in their own room sized pen.
